OFT | Survival Pistol

Prerequisites:

All students must understand and be able to successfully maintain all shooting safety fundamentals. Students should understand and be able to clear malfunctions, reload and work in and out of a holster under stress and time constraints. This is not a “learn how to shoot class”. You must have a solid understanding of how your pistol works and how to use your pistol in a defensive situation.

 

SUMMARY:

This course is designed to introduce the intermediate or advanced shooter to the art of defensive and practical pistol shooting. The focus will be on the use of cover and concealment, malfunctions, shooting on the move and unconventional shooting positions.

Start time is 9:00am. Students are expected to arrive no later than 8:30am for set up and range safety briefing. (Please be on time! Your time is everyone else’s time.)

COURSE BREAKDOWN:

– Range orientation

– Firearms safety

– Warm-up drills

– Ready positions

– Close quarters engagements

– Drawing and re-holstering techniques

– Reloading techniques and malfunction clearance drills

– Search & scan / situational awareness

– Single hand techniques (right and left and transitions)

– Moving and shooting / shooting and moving

– Failure drills

– Turning and shooting

– Cover versus concealment

– Seated position shooting

– Close range speed shooting

 

EQUIPMENT LIST:

-Quality functional semi-automatic pistol

-5 magazines minimum (please arrive with magazines loaded!)

-Minimum of 500 rounds of brass cased ammunition (no steel cased ammunition)

– 5 rounds of dummy ammunition

-Belt mounted holster / kydex holster (OWB, IWB, AIWB)—PLEASE NO flimsy nylon or cloth holsters. NO BLACKHAWK SERPA, UNCLE MIKE’S, FOBUS, or ALIEN GEAR, holsters.

We do not allow ankle, small of the back, or shoulder holsters.

We recommend: Blackpoint Tactical, Black Center Tactical, Dark Star Gear, C&G Holsters, Raven Concealment, G-Code, or Concealment Express.)

-Magazine or loading device pouches / magazine carrier, etc.

-Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide

-Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning with good ankle support.

-Clothing suitable for training in any weather – long pants – long sleeve shirt, hoodie or jacket for cold weather.

-Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses

-Electronic hearing protection preferred.

-Notebook and pen for note taking

-Humble willing to learn attitude

– Lunch, snacks, hydration to last through out the day
